Coyle & Caron LLC was responsible for design of the artificial habitats and containment methods for this new 53 million dollar, 6 acre outdoor exhibit sequence. Habitats included a blend of native flora and geology with references to the Asian landscapes of the Giant Panda, Red Panda, Clouded Leopard, Sloth Bear, Fishing Cat and Giant Salamander.
Asia Trail 1 opened in October 2006 and was awarded the 2006 Presidential Citation for Sustainable Design by the Washington D.C. Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
Asia Trail was a design collaborative led by Chatelain Architects and Nelson Byrd Woltz.
