Borinquen Court
After years of declining conditions the tenant association at this145-unit senior housing development in South Bronx reached out to HUD and West Side Federation for Senior & Supportive Housing (WSFSSH) for assistance. As a result of successful local initiatives, the housing complex underwent a multi-million dollar renovation led by Redtop Architects (now Kindred Archworks and SGV Architects). Coyle & Caron assisted in the design of a new entryway, drop-off and reconfigured parking areas. Community garden spaces surrounding the building were renovated to support residents’ preference to spend time outdoors socializing and gardening. Plans also included cleaning up and restoring an adjacent former gas station for use as a neighborhood park.
