coastal bank reconstruction

CROW POINT, hingham, massachusetts

The site for this new home on the north side of Crow Point has breathtaking views of Hingham Bay and Boston Harbor Islands. While perched on the bank, the property is located on a low point within the neighborhood. Many years of runoff from surrounding properties had caused groundwater breakout and bank failure. As part of the design plan for a new home and terraced garden, the bank was reconstructed to improve its function for storm protection. Reestablishing plan cover along the bank was critical to the success of the project. Coyle & Caron took the opportunity to have fun with the planting design by creating a formal layout that included a diverse palette of native coastal species adapted to the harsh environment.
