crow point house

hingham, massachusetts

This new shingle-style residence is perched on a north facing bluff overlooking Hingham Bay. Stone elements were used throughout the sloping site to articulate paths and create terraces for play, entertaining, and sunning. Horizontal stone ‘shelves’ were incorporated into the wall design as a means of terracing large retaining walls and creating a datum.

For drainage and stability the coastal bank was rebuilt and planted with a tapestry of beach roses and native coastal species. Four years after planting the coastal bank supports increased biodiversity and has improved its capacity for storm protection.
