scituate, massachusetts

With its southern exposure overlooking the North River, this protected site has a microclimate unique to Boston’s south coast where winters are known to be harsh. Coyle & Caron designed a series of outdoor spaces to make the most of this ideal setting including a large entertaining area, a small family dining terrace and practical areas for play and outdoor cooking. Plantings near the house were chosen for summer display while integrated into a broader palette of multi-season interest species. Lawn areas invaded by phragmites were restored to a wet meadow habitat including native grasses, perennials and shrubs.
