Resiliency

As part of an environmental permit, Coyle & Caron worked with a private homeowner to replace lawn with a diverse palette of salt marsh edge species. The restored buffer provides additional habitat for wildlife as well as storm protection along the protected North River in Scituate, Massachusetts.

The City of Leominster and Norfolk Ram Group teamed with Coyle & Caron to develop a land parcel adjacent to the Monoosnoc Brook as a public park to capture and treat storm water runoff from the surrounding 19-acre watershed. The existing ‘end of pipe’ storm water system was diverted from the brook to three treatment areas. Coyle & Caron restored the site with native species adapted to drought and inundation. Connections from nearby neighborhoods allow visitors can experience the park and observe treatment areas. Interpretive signage by Haber-Schaim Art and Design informs visitors in a fun and engaging way about what storm water is and how they can make a difference to their local environment.

Coyle & Caron worked with a private homeowner and coastal geologist to reconstruct a coastal bank that was failing due to groundwater breakout from years of neighborhood runoff. To improve its function for storm protection, the bank was reconstructed including reestablishment of plant cover critical to its long term success.
