Nehrling Gardens

Coyle & Caron, David Sacks Nehrling Gardens collaborated on the design for a master plan for Dr. Nehrling’s historic home and gardens in Gotha, Florida. The Master Plan for Nehrling Gardens lays out a long-term vision for realizing this important historic garden’s great potential as a community asset, an oasis for the enjoyment of nature and for environmental and horticultural education, in a setting that saves a unique piece of ‘old Florida’ landscape.

To make the site viable, the master plan sensitively integrates needed infrastructure and accessibility with expanded opportunities for outdoor learning and revenue generation while retaining the garden’s character as an ‘exploration garden.’ Horticultural elements of the program focused on plant groups important to Dr. Nehrling’s story including revitalizing his ‘Palm Cottage Gardens’ and adding a new lathe house. Since its completion in 2022, the Master Plan continues to guide the Client through a complicated rezoning process, including building relationships with their neighbors.
